When you listen to your favorite music it makes you happy. Use that to revitalize your workouts! Even classical music can be energetic. Choose whatever gets you moving. Mix up the beat count of your music choices with slower ones for warm up and cool down and then faster for the workout phase. You will be amazed at how quickly the time goes by. This will work for both cardio and weight training. It's one of the reasons why the right music sets the tone of a resistance training, yoga, pilates, or cardio class. |

It's hard to keep the energy flowing in your workout when you are still doing the same things all the time in exactly the same way. Change up the order of exercises or the pace to re-energize your program. You have the best of intentions in keeping up your healthy goals but you find yourself making excuses for NOT working out? Partner up with someone to help with accountability. Revisit the reason you began your exercise journey. Ask about or research new exercises that would be fun to do. |

One of the most fun pieces of equipment in the gym is the BOSU "ball". Actually, it is half of an inflated ball on a base. It can be used with the base side down or facing up. With the rounded side up it can be used to sit on or lean against for crunches, leg lifts, unstable push ups, and a variety of standing and balancing activities. With the flat side up, you can stand on it for balancing while doing bicep curls, or sit on for balance. The versatility of this one piece of equipment is amazing. |

Wow, the weather is getting to be wonderful for outside activities. Don't underestimate the benefits of taking a walk around the neighborhood. For night or early morning walks or runs, add a little flasher light or reflective tape to your jacketor shoes so you can be seen and then enjoy!

Now that school has started back and Fall has arrived, it's a good time to revisit your workouts. Feeling good is even more important now. We all have such busy schedules, it's easier to push your exercise time to the back burner. You know that exercising will give you a burst of energy and keep those muscles in good working order. It is also probably a good time to adjust your workout plan. Your body is very adaptable and can get used to any exercise. Try doing some of the exercises you used to do but with adjusted resistance. If it's been awhile, your body will probably perceive these as new moves! Remember, you can always ask me for suggestions which I'll be happy to provide. It's included in your membership!

Don't you sometimes wish you could wave a wand and everything you wanted would be right there without having to put in much effort??!! Because that's not the way it happens, making smaller goals that you can reach is better. Start with the goal [reasonable] and break it down into something you can manage. What can you do today that will get you on your way? As an example: Learning to drive a car... you do not start on the beltway! You begin by taking very short trips in your neighborhood. |

Today a client came in saying she was so tired and really felt "blah". Obviously she was in no real "mood" to do a workout! Many times you actually GET energy from working out even though you don't feel like it at the time. A good conversation with someone there, a little music, or a good distraction from the TV can often get you over that hump. Before you know it, you have your 20 or 30 minutes done and you can pat yourself on the back for making the effort! The key is: YOU HAVE TO SHOW UP! I applaud all your efforts!
